To clench your fist
When you clench your fist, you press or squeeze your closed hand, usually showing that you are angry, or determined.
- He clenched his fists in anger.
- When he saw his name on the list of successful candidates he clenched his fist and shouted, “Yes!”
Tight-fisted
Not willing to spend or give much money, not generous with money. SYN – mean, stingy.
- Don’t expect to get a nice present from him. He’s too tight-fisted.
Ham-fisted (US also – ham-handed)
Doing things in an awkward, unskilled way when using your hands or not careful or gentle enough when dealing with people. SYN – clumsy
- Customers’ complaints were dealt with in a really ham-fisted way.
