To have an effect on somebody or change a situation.
To make all the difference
To have an important effect on somebody or something; to make somebody feel better.
Same difference
Used informally as a conventionalized, frozen response to what you regard as a petty, irrelevant correction. This fixed expression is a kind of verbal shrug and a sign of indifference or mild annoyance. It really means – ‘It’s the same thing – no difference.’
- A: What’s that?
- B: It’s a gerbil.
- A: It looks more like a hamster to me.
- B: Same difference.
With exactly the same meaning you can also say, Whatever.
